Franchising

Franchising has been around since the middle Ages, but it launched its economic apex in 1970's in the United States and it hasn't looked back since. Current lifestyles are causing an increasing need for services and convenience. A dramatic growth in the number of two-income households has caused the opening of new markets for services and products that respond to the needs of people living in a fast-paced society. Franchising is not a complex investment if you understand franchising basics. Franchising is generally looked upon as a more secure path as well as a shortcut to business ownership and financial independence.

Franchising offers a good opportunity for investment and career building to people from all walks of life with and varying level of capital nod experience. Increasingly, all kinds of people are investing in franchised businesses to achieve their personal and professional goals more rapidly and with less risk, compared to owning an independent small business.

The ideal franchisee must be capable of being a business owner and must be willing to dedicate more time than a normal job requires, at least for the first year. The franchisee must know or learn business basics as well as the 'ins' and 'outs' of his/her specific franchise operation. There are no "get rich quick schemes" in any legitimate franchise system.

People who decide to purchase a franchise are typically happy with their decision. More than 3 out of 4 franchise owners would recommend franchising to others. The growth rate for franchise operations often outpaces the economy and thus, franchising is an ideal career or investment move.

Statistics have proven that one-fourth to one-third of all independently owned, non-franchise business start-ups are discontinued in their first year of operation. Almost two-thirds are discontinued in the first five years. Franchising represents more than 40% of all retail sales in North America and this number is expected to grow over 50% in the 21st century.

Currently, many franchised businesses operate in North America generating more than $1 trillion dollars in sales annually. The average franchisee owns three franchises and averages $200,000 in net earnings.
